Gucci is planning to open its flash sneaker stores in six or seven locations around the world, such as Art Basil Miami Beach, staying open for two or three weeks in each spot. Leather tags on shoe laces can be customized and embossed with a shopper’s initials. Besides, Gucci invited Mark Ronson, one of the world finest DJs, music producers and sneaker enthusiasts, to design the Gucci Ronson sneakers. At every leg of the itinerant project, a new Gucci Ronson version will be introduced. He said,“I spent many, many years as an avid sneaker collector, so I wanted to make sure these Gucci shoes were truly special from an aesthetic and collectable point of view,” And a 12-inch vinyl record of limited edition tracks will be given to customers who buy Gucci Ronson sneakers as a gift.

The motivation for Gucci to launch such project may be the recession of luxury detailers. Gucci is looking for high-impact, lower-cost methods of generating interest in the brand, especially among style leaders who may not be moved by conventional forms of advertising. Another reason may be the success of Kanye West and Louis Vuitton Sneaker this year.

Gucci New Chiodo Collection

As I see it, the watches released by Gucci are no different from fine jewelry. This fashion season, Gucci introduced Chiodo, the new collection of striking time pieces, whose design is based on the iconic square head nail employed by Gucci since the 1960s. The nail motif has been used in both silver and gold as a decorative detail on the most coveted accessory items.

Just like horse bit, this symbol has its origin in the equestrian world and is modeled on the pyramidal nails used to hold the shoe on the horse's hoof. But I am always wondering that is the Hermes or Gucci has more to do with equestrian. The Chiodo collection offers two elegant watch case shapes, square and round, that can be enriched by a luminescent mother-of-pearl dial with graceful flinking.

The fashionable circular-faced versions are in steel, also available with diamonds punctuating either the dial or case, or encrusted on the nail heads used on the bracelet ends. The square styles feature a sophisticated case and bracelet, which lend an unusual, jewel-like quality to their appearance. Distinguished by bold angles and contours, these timepieces area available in a rich range of materials and luxurious finishes, and includes both gold and solid sterling silver versions.

Used only rarely in timepiece manufacturing, the latter represents an intrinsic part of the brand's innovative and longstanding heritage in watch making. Rows of sparking diamonds can be added for more dramatic and precious options. The watch is available in three styles: chiodo sterling silver, 18kt yellow gold and stainless steel styles.

Gucci New Pelham Collection

Gucci is always known for its endless creation and surprise. It managed to associate with bamboo details, and now it tries to connect with the equestrianism, which is previously tightly linked to Hermes. I do not know whether it would be a kind of innovation or simply copycat doings. Any way, there are many products hence after.

The two new Pelham large shoulder bags are among them. The first one features single adjustable strap and detachable braided shoulder strap, while the second one has double straps. Both bags have horse bit detail and studs for accomplishment of the equestrianism motif, and embossed Gucci script logo to show that it is authentic. Flap closure, inside zip pocket are available in both bags.

Here comes the difference. The former one is sized at 39 x 6 x 33 cm and with a 13 cm drop, wile the latter one is sized at 42 x 17 x 33 cm and with a 20 cm drop. Besides the different capacity, the second one is differ from the first by its side snaps and bottom feet. The materials used are different, too. One is crafted in light brown leather with brass hardware, the other is made of dark brown guccissima leather with dark brown leather trim and brass hardware.

Another amazingly sameness is that both bags are priced as high as £1030. Well, which bag do you prefer? To me, I like neither of them. After all, they are neither with my preferred shape nor in my adored colors.

Developed Luxury

1 Long ago, luxury goods just offered people who lived in majestic houses with a full complement of servants. They prefered Louis Vuitton trunks and Christian Dior trousseaus, but far away from fashion. They wanted "classic" style, just like their politics- conservative- determined largely by consideration of safeguarding their wealth and perpetuating the social conventions that ratified their sense of superiority.

It is a big difference from now. Luxury not only belongs to celebrities, but also to our normal people. Maybe you cannot afford a house in Paris's 16th arrondissement or an apartment on New York's Park Avenue; you also can buy a Louis Vuitton handbag or a bottle of Dior perfume with your enough disposable income.

Now, so many officers tote a luxury brand through their hard working, never mind that they were born into a family whose ancestral home is a tract house in the suburbs. That group of people has a sense of entitlement that transcends social class, a conviction that the finer things are their birthright. They believe shopping is a form of self-expression and consumerism. They revise the notion of luxury and force more brands join in the intensive competition.

Luxury is developed. It is not only in Europe and American, but also enters into Asia. It does not only grasp classic items, but also follow fashion. From every year fashion week, you will know what polished trend is this season. From Hollywood style, you will personify the change from the discreet. More and more luxury brands know elitist approach prevails for most of this century.

China Luxury Market-Not Just a Bed of Rose

Every company on any industry is struggling on the economic meltdown, especially for luxury companies. When Europeans and North Americans tighten their belts, newly-emerging wealthy classes in China are desperately chasing for anything that will shows their affluence and status. However, it is predicted that China will become the one of the biggest luxury market in the future as its neighbor and archrival-Japan, but out of those optimistic hype, it is still a tough nut to crack.

Although almost every brewery in China adopts foreign formulas or technologies, luxury liquor producers still doubt with the prospect. Champagne house Taittinger said it could make high-end sparkling wine in China but the market was not ready for it yet, while Lamborghini said the country's tradition of luxury chauffeurs, bigger than sports driving, made expansion there a challenge. The luxury watchmaker's Chief Executive Jean-Marc Jacot said. Taittinger said there were many places in China where it could consider making high quality sparkling wine - champagne can only be made in the northern French region - but Chinese palates were not accustomed yet to the pricey tipple. "It is probably a bit early," Pierre-Emmanuel Taittinger said. "There is not a strong (high-end) wine culture there yet."

Another concern is business culture diversity. Jeweler Van Cleef & Arpels, owned by Richemont, found it tough to get its brand message across, while watchmaker Parmigiani Fleurier worried about finding the right partners. "The specific challenge about China is finding a Chinese company you can trust and who understands the luxury business,"

Counterfeits are always the top obstacles for luxury companies to succeed in China Market. Hermes, whose chic handbags are hand made in France, would consider making goods in China if it could find artisans to make original items, but said it suffered from counterfeiting there. "Our image is strongly damaged by counterfeits. That is why we are fighting it like hell," CEO Patrick Thomas said. "When they (in China) see a counterfeit, they think it is genuine."

But luxury groups agree that China, where consumers are very brand-conscious, will soon become the industry's No 1 market and this year will be one of the few emerging markets to enjoy growth. So it's certainly a rose bed but you have to nurture it by heart.

This will assist them in providing aid to orphans and children affected by HIV and AIDS in Africa.

Battered Luxury Brands Eye Chinese Market For Growth

While the developed world tighten their belts and focus spending on daily necessities, the big luxury companies are looking to China's new rich to buy their jewelry, clothes and bags.

The Chinese market shows remarkable resilience in the financial crisis because it has an increasing number of people able and willing to buy luxury goods, says Guo.

"Unlike the mature traditional markets, demand in China is far from saturated either materially or psychologically."

090414-tommy-battered-luxury-brands-eye-chinese-market-for-growthThe high-end market, which was once believed to be immune from economic downturn, has seen weakening sales growth or even declines in the traditional markets of the United States, Europe and Japan, analysts say.

A study by the Bain & Company consultants in October predicted global luxury goods sales growth would slow sharply to 3 percent to hit 175 billion euros (220 billion dollars) in 2008. The slower growth rate stood in sharp contrast with 6.5 percent in 2007 and 9percent growth in 2006.

The study also forecast the luxury sector would face its first recession in six years in 2009, with sales declining by up to 7 percent.

A report from Deutsche Bank says the market will contract 5 to 10 percent in 2009.

However, experts say the Chinese luxury goods market remains resilient.

An estimated 415,000 Chinese had more than 1 million U.S. dollars in disposable assets in 2007, more than any other country, according to the Merrill-Lynch Asia-Pacific Wealth Report released in September.

"The spending power in China is spectacular", says Daisy Moon, assistant PR manager of Tiffany & Co. China, which achieved its sales targets last year and seems little affected by the financial crisis.

A Gucci spokesman said in an e-mail to Xinhua that China represented one of the most dynamic areas of retail growth for the firm, with 2008 sales growth in the mainland at 42 percent. The global profit for the company edged up 0.2 percent from a year ago.

Gucci had 25 stores in 17 Chinese cities as of January, when it opened three new stores. It is looking to open its Shanghai flagship store in May.

LVMH claims business profit was up 2.1 percent from a year earlier to 3.63 billion euros in 2008, but sales in the United States fell 4.03 percent and in Japan 5.16 percent last year. However, the group stressed in its annual report that performance in China was "solid" and strong.

Cartier, the French jeweler and watchmaker, is planning more stores in first and second-tier Chinese cities after posting double-digit growth in 2008.

Yan Jun, managing director of Beijing-based Ecole Fashion & Luxury Consulting Ltd., says the expanding middle class constitutes an important group of consumers who desire and can afford luxury goods.

"Aged between 25 and 40 and living in developed regions, they are fashionable, mature, and passionate about lifestyle and quality," he says.

Up to 170 million people, or 13 percent of the population, can afford luxury brands and the number will reach 250 million next year, according to the China Association of Branding Strategy.

The government aims to build "a well-off society" by 2020, with per capita GDP of 3,000 U.S. dollars. Developed regions, such as Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Suzhou and Wenzhou, with a total population of more than 300 million, will see per capita GDP exceed 15,000 U.S. dollars.

Bain & Company predicted the Chinese luxury market would see growth of 20 to 35 percent in the next five years. The Ministry of Commerce says China will become the world's largest luxury market by 2014, accounting for 23 percent of global business.

"It is almost certain that China has surpassed the United States to become the second largest luxury market after Japan. There is still a lot of room for development," says Yan Jun.

He believes the huge potential will definitely attract more brands.

"I am going to Italy to give a lecture about luxury management in China this June. I have been told a lot of executives of luxury companies will attend and they are eager to know more about the Chinese market and how to enter the market," says Yan.

"The Chinese market is so desirable that international luxury companies are speeding up their quest for a share."
